I love to look down there. It's lighted 24/7 and full of bugs. Seen a few bristles too. Got a featherduster and a bunch of mini dusters. Sponge, macro algae, a limpet, and 15 lbs of rock or so.

Maybe 2" deep of miracle mud and a 1/2" sand topping. Picture below.

I want critters in it. Recommendations? I guess no fish should live there with 24/7 lighting, huh? How about crabs? Shrimp? Pistol? Or would he make a mess of my mud?

I would put all kinds of inverts down there. Shrimp, crabs, snails...
Though, the crabs may nibble on your marcro they would be interesting to watch. :)

I keep a few peppermint shrimp that are constantly breeding along w/ a decorator crab in my fuge. The decorator crab is very neat. Be careful that what you put in there is not going to decimate the Pod population, especially any fish.

Just be carfule with snails and/or hermits. You don't want them blocking a drain or clogging a pump. This might not be possible with your setup but is was with mine :(
