Crushed Coral?

Has anyone placed crushed coral with a sand bed over it? Is there any benefit to doing this way?

I wouldn't use crushed coral at all got rid of mine 20 years ago. I think it traps alot of stuff and causes high nitrates.

Stick with just sand or live sand. You really don't need crushed coral IMO.

That might be yucky over time. Eventually it would work it's way to the surface and mix in. Never tried that, but I haven't had any issues with crushed coral.

I ask because I've already got a tank with crushed coral and ill be getting a complete 130 setup the 1st of the year (free, yes all of it free) and ill be putting the 55 into the 130 which has live sand. I was just wondering if there would be a benefit to using the crushed as a substrate

Just ditch the crushed coral. It'll end up rising to the top anyway.
