My brother makes all of his own rock (cept for the true ocean live rock of that he seeds his tank with). It takes a long time to cure but it looks better than anything else I've seen other than really nice handpicked live Fiji. It's probably not an option for a lot of people but I'm shocked more people on the site aren't doing it. I helped a buddy make some about 10 years ago.

Dan, don't know anything about Bio-Spira but I do know that Marineland makes an aquarium safe epoxy. It is a green "stick" in a plastic tube. You knead it like dough until its white in color. I have used it to attach some of my heavier coral to rocks and once it hardens, it is solid.

Anything that has "safe for potable water sources" on it should be okay to use. I buy the stuff at the hardware store for years.

You may not like it at all. It has to look good to you! If you could get just one good rock scape out of the stone you have now, even if the rest looks a little bleh you can fix it up when the rest of the rock gets to you. Then, if you see you have enough to pull off a nice wall you could always connect the whole thing. When you don't have quite enough rock to fill a tank, just getting one cool looking area set up can work better than spreading it across the tank. That way it's just a matter of adding on to it instead of redoing the whole thing.

Those epoxy sticks saved my but a few times.
