Denitrators - do they really work?

I noticed this today while I was looking up stocking lists...
anyone here have any experience with this type of gizmos?

Heh well... I bought the stuff and am going to make a modified version of that with a removable filtration chamber for carbon in case of sulfer problems (fail safe?).

Going to add it to a tester tank with a messy eater and give it a shot.. Will take a while, but I will report my findings when the time comes.

(and yes, for the record I understand you should remove the source of nitrates, but any dependable measure is a good measure in my book, so we'll see)

I've heard differing opinions on them. In theory it should work, but theory doesn't always work out in the real world.

How much of a nitrate drop are you expecting?

More of a maintaining sort of thing rather then a cleansing sort of thing..
Just another 'entity' to do a little cleanup work...

Not expecting it to make water changes a thing of the past etc etc..
Just an experiment more then anything.
I have all the parts etc, so it's academic to me..

I had one in my 55 a good while ago and it seemed to work good as I had a wet dry that was a nitrate factory. It cut nitrates down from 80 to 20

Melosu, what type was it?
I've seen so many differing approaches, some of them seemingly dangerous heh

Was it DIY or purchased?
