Diamond Basslet (?)

The LFS has a fish that they have labled as a Diamond Basslet. Its blue/purple in color on the bottom and the top has some yellow just behind the head and its in a pattern simular to if you took a diamond shape and split it down the middle and put it on the back of the fish.

Problem is that when I search Diamond Basslet on the net I get nothing. When I look it up in my Burgess atlas I get nothing. Thus I am thinking this is miss labled.

I want the fish and will probably get it but would like to have an idea first.

The body shape is elongated. Kind of like a psudochrmois.

OK, If anyone wants to call me stuipid please do so in this post.

I went back to the shop and I had the color pattern Reversed. It was a Yellow body with a purpleish pattern up top. Its wider just behind the head and tappers till you get to the back fin.

BTW, I did not get the fish yet. As the person working the fish room told me it was a $29 fish vs the $6.99 price of the item they was selling as a Diamond Basslet even though in two tanks with the Diamond Basslet priced on the tank this fish was in both.

Well off to my ID books aswell.

Thats teh bad boy.

haha

Evidently there is not a fish with the reverse color pattern. I looked all thru my burgess atlas with no results.

I got the colors reversed between leaving the store and walking home.

haha

Kevin got it on the nose! That web site I posted a few days ago will help ID in the future. http://www.fishbase.org/search.html

You just type the common name (easiest way) and you'll have it, picture too.

True, but what if the common name is incorrect or is bogas.

I was not finding the common name listed in my burgess atlas nor was I getting any results on a google search so I figured it might have been a not so common, common name.
