Does anyone know why switching to led lights has caused an outbreak of diatoms I have not been able to shake. Getting frustrating and although I love the new lights I am beginning to want my t5ho setup back.

LEDs shouldn't cause a diatom bloom. Diatoms feed off of silicates. Are you sure this is a diatom bloom and not something else? An algae bloom can be caused by the increase of lighting over the tank if there is nitrate/phosphate in the water to consume.

I guess it is more likely a brown hair algae. Tonight it looks more like it is getting to be a little hair like. I have cut my photo period down and reduced the lights to 30 percent except for an hour and a half of 50 percent power.
