I have had my tank up for 3yrs, 72gal reef. All peramaters are within the normal range. Using ro/di water. feeding pebble food every other day...sparingly. Once a week or so mysis shrimp.

Battled green hair algae for about 6 months. Finally it subsided, but now I have what I think is a diatom bloom. I get a film of what looks like brown snot all over the glass. It wipes right off with a mag float. Any ideas. tia

My tank is 9 yrs old and I get a brown dust on the glass every few days that my mag float takes off. It`s just part of reef keeping

I also get a green brown "dust" algae on the glass that needs to be cleaned every few days. This is normal. I would test for NO3 and PO4 to see where your levels are at. May be time to change the DI resin or membrane in your unit.

Yep, it is normal. Wish I had a mag float for the house though. :) Just wipe it across the mess and the whole house would be clean!
