Difference between wet/dry skimming?

Is there any siginficant difference between skimming wet or dry besides volume of output?

wet skimming will pull out more stuff, But wastes more water

dry skimming wont pull as much stuff out as wet skimming, But saves you on water.

So in terms of productivity, it is smarter to go with wet skimming if you dont mind the extra water?
