DIY HOB Refugium. Critique?

heres a few pictures of the HOB refugium i made from an emperor 400.

currently lit with LEDs ..... anyone know if this will be enough for Cheato or should i put a fluorescent bulb in there?

made it out of mirrored plexiglass.

i think im gonna put another piece on the front to block the view into it and stop the light from spilling into the tank
 
i can't tell how bright it is with the pics, but it should be ok. seems a little small inside though. also, the pods can't fall into the DT with those filter pads. maybe you can remove the filter pads and just make a mesh barrier for it.
 
i brought the lights lower.... the mirrored enclosure ill use if i need a larger bulb

Mr. X, those aren't filter pads, they're just plastic. not sponge or media in them.

i put them there just to keep the algae from coming out
 
ahh..cool. i guess it could work. many folks use aqua clear HOb filters as refugiums...what is the difference between the two?
 
they're just set up a little differently. this one has spray bars and allows me to reduce the flow to very very low.

but an aquaclear is transparent green plastic and i guess the advantage is you can put a light on the back or underneath
