Hey Gang,

I just tested my water an everything looked great except for the dKH.

Ph was 8.2
Calcium was 450
0 trites, trates, and ammonia

but...the dKH was 14. Is this too high?

What would cause this and how can I fix it (if needed?)

Thanks!

Rob

It's high if you have corals. If it's FOWLR it's not that big of a deal.
Are you dosing anything?
What salt do you use?
The only way to lower it is doing water changes with a salt that has a lower alk level.

I have a feeling you got a bad reading, or the test kit was bad. If your calcium is 450, I doubt your alk will be high. If you are using API for the calcium test, it's way off. I'm thinking your calcium is in the high 300's. Add more calcium to lower alk.
Or, do water changes with a decent salty mix as Larry stated.
