Do eels always stay in hiding?

I have a snow flake eel, and he seems to always hide in my rocks. He has only been in the tank for 2-3 days, so perhaps he is just shy - is this normal behavior?

yep, they dont see well from what I know of em and the way my two were when I first got them. they stay in the rocks mostly but come out when its dark. Its normal, have you fed him exclusively yet?

No - but I usually drop bits of shrimp down in the area of the rocks where he comes out and he'll come out and grab it and pull it in with him.

Can I mix him with other eels? I was thinking of getting a golden eel and a white-eyed eel as well.

Golden's get pretty big. How big is your tank and how old is it?

I think the goldens would make a snack out of the snowflakes in given time.

Seriously eh?

Would they go well in a preadator tank perhaps?

Don't mix your eels. Your snowflake if fed on a routine basis will slowly become more accustomed to you approaching the tank and will appear more regularly. But don't look for him to just swim around the tank like other fish.

Mine would hide during the day only to come out at feeding time.
