I typically feed my tank (fish and shrimp) and then wait awhile( 20 or 30 minutes) before turning my PH's back on so that my crabs (about 20 hermits and 2 emerald mithrax) can scavenge food off the bottom. And then I got to thinking....is this even necessary? Will they die if I don't? BTW, my mithrax's are getting huge, and I'm considering getting rid of them.

My clean up crew feed mostly from the rock . I personally never turn of any powerheads, still, food gets to the bottom. My crabs are also getting huge! 8O

I hand feed mine everyonce in a while if they are someone is getting to close to me acan while I'm tying to feed it. other than that, they are on there own.

When tossing in food as normal, occassionally a few pieces hit the bottom.. that's about all that's done for em. :) They should be good to go picking up random droppings, detritus, algae and other "stuff" on the bottom.
