Do polyps really spread that fast?

I only have a 30 gal, would polyps eventually take over? I heard they spread really fast, can you make them stop?

I am noticing much faster growth from all my polyps and softies than I'd ever imagined. Luckily you can "prune" them a bit like you would a plant and trade or sell the frags.

I put some button polyps in my 20 gallon almost a year ago and they really haven't spread much at all. Probably depends on the tank conditions.

My polyps seem to vaish one or two at a time...think something must be eating them

My buttons are just starting to spread. I had a "baby" drop off onto another rock last week. I have then in the tank for several months.
