Do skimmers smell?

That's my question...do skimmers give off a bad smell??

Never had one before so thinking of getting one but I don't want all my house to stink!

Mine does a little but nothing serious. I mostly smell it when I open it to empty it.

They don't smell when they run however the gunk it pulls out into the cup is real bad when you dump it. Hold your nose and turn away. I dump it down the old john.

I know they smell when you take the cup off haha!

What I mean is that when they are just running on your tank normally in the day collecting does the smell get out and can you smell it from the surrounding area?
