I have a reef devil 40 which looking at there web site looks like their closer to 600 (http://www.superskimmer.com/ETSS 600.htm) this then their new reef devil (http://www.superskimmer.com/reef_devil.htm)
and the guy I got it from had it running with a mag5 pump. Looking at the site they recommend a mag7 or a pump that does 700GPH. The mag5 does 500gph...Im just wondering if I need to get a bigger pump for this skimmer to work correctly?? I also have a mag 9 as my return.
I'd hate to buy another pump and be stuck with a mag5 I cant use.
Any suggesting.....should I just try the mag5 and see if it will work?

I have 2 reef devils and they are great skimmers after a break in period..
I would say you need to get a larger pump... You can try it and see if it works for you it will do no harm to the unit it just won't skim if its not large enough.

You want the water levelt o be at the bottom of the clear riser tube.
I have the pump that came with 1 unit the CA 1800 and i have a viaaqua 2600 on the other. The viaaqua I have cut back some because it was too strong.
Call or email the guys at ETSS if you have any questions. They are a local company for me, I have stopped in at there shop... Nice bunch of guys and real helpful

thanks for the feeback
I think i may use the mag 9 and adjust the flow to cut it back alittle and use the mag5 as one of my returns and jsut buy another mag5....2 returns will help and I may not even need a PH :)
