Dolomite and Rock in fuge?

I'm setting up a fuge for the purposes of increasing my pod population. I've chopped up some dry base rock that a lfs was selling for $.50/lb, but some of it looks completely different than the rest - its gray and reddish (see pic below) and feels different than regular rock - but, its not like the store bought lava rock either. I know its probably a stupid question and its probalby okay to use but anyone know if it looks like any kind of material that I shouldn't be introducting to the tank (I plan on putting it in the fuge).

Also, I've got lr rubble in the fuge from the dry base rock and I stumbbled on two big bags of dolomite that I used waaaay back in the day. Would this be something I could throw in with the lr rubble? Would piles of dolomite in the fuge act as fine rubble, helping with a breeding place for pods? I've got a DSB in my main tank (about 4 inches) - will the addition of dolomite in the fuge mess with my ph levels? Maybe its not worth it?

Thanks, as usual, for the help. It's my first fuge so I need all the help I can get.
