Could anyone please clear up the confusion I am having on size of the sand needed for a DSB? Sugar sized?, am planning on picking up sand this week (No i could not get SD from anywhere near here). Most sand is rated in mm i.e. .5mm- 1.2 mm, etc... Just want to make sure i get this right the first time Thanks for all your help. these forums are a wealth of information.

none really. Just make sure you read what's in the sand before buying it. Color is up to you.

So if I understand this right, you want no stars or other fish/critters that disturb the sand bed? What sort of cleanup crew do most use then?

most have a varity of detrivore stars, such as brittle stars, and a varity of crabs and snails to pick up algae and such. Which exactly one gets is truely a matter of opinion and preference. I have a brittle star, scarlet hermit crabs and dozens of snails that were just part of the LR when i got it.
