Hi, I would like to ask if I were to use DSB to convert NO3 into nitrogen gas, is it any kind of sand will do? I have decided to place a 4 inch (10cm) deep sand, but I have not yet buy the sand. Can I use normal sand instead of LS?

If I have a green wrasse which always goes into the sand bed during sleeping time, would it cause trouble? Would Hydrogen Sulphide moves up?

Biggen,

I read that article....Excellent. It has a lot of information that I havent heard discussed anywhere else. I'll definitely be referring people back to that article.

mansiz, While disturbance of the sand bed should be kept to a minimum the wrasse should be fine with its natural digging.

Anyone thats seen my 80 gal knows my pistol and gobies have done a real number on the sand bed.

The basics of the sandbed is the size of the particles. If the particles are to large then the removal of nitrates would work as effectivly at a given depth.
