DSB question.

I plan to set up a deep sand bed, have a 9 kg live sand and a 20 kg normal sand grade 0, the normal comes in 10 kg a packet. My question is, where should I place the live sand? At the bottom, then normal sand on top, or at the middle with both normal sand below and on top, or should I place the live sand on the top most layer? TIA for all reply.

Thanks steve, how long should I wait in order to see bubbles occurs in the bottom of the sand?

I've never seen bubbles in mine.

Oh... but I thought that in order to removes NO3, there is a kind of bacteria at the bottom of the DSB and bubbles would be seen? Or did I misread the article?

ya might see some bubbles ! it all depends on your bio load the more ya have the faster you will see them if low bio-load ya might not see them

Then is there any other ways to see if the DSB is working or not?

Simply testing of the water should indicate wheter or not your DSB is working.
