To me a new bottle stinks a little. If you've ever smelled a bad bottle of DT's you'll never forget the difference between the two.

This is my first bottle you see, so I've nothing to compare :p

It doesn't smell at all when just using normally, but when you stick your nose in the bottle, it's very bad, almost makes me gag. But I guess it could be worse... :p

I always noticed a smell. Never used it until I had clams though.

Just used it again today, and it does smell BAD! Sadly, it's all subjective. I just wish there was a way to find out if I was just pouring dead phyto into my tank, or if it's a "normal" smell!

Mine stinks too....Just use it. It is a pretty foul smell. I have had no ill effects from it. My clam, coco tube worm, hawaiian feather duster, and scallop are all doing well.

Cool, good to hear, thanks!

Do you target feed your animals with powerheads off etc, or do you just drop the phyto into the top of the tank and let it circulate on its own!

I shut down the PS and the main pump. Once water stops draining into the sump I just pour it in and let the PH's circulate around the tank. I feed the tank at the same time.

After 20 - 30 minutes I turn the main pump and the PS back on.

Oh yes, it does smell some when you open the bottle. The smell gets worse as the bottle gets empty (more airspace in the bottle).

Yeah, I just shut it all off. I measure out the amount for my tank size (about 1/2 of what the bottle reccomends), mix it with about a cup of tank water and give everyone a big slow squirt. Then let it sit for about 10 min, then turn it all back on.

I only use 2.5ml at a time as I've only got a small tank! So I just put it in the front of the tank where most of the corals are, let it sink for a couple of minutes, then turn my PH back on. Only a bit will land directly on the corals, but there's not really much else I can do with such a small amount!

Mix that 2.5ml with a 1/2 cup of your tank water. Then you can use that mix to target feed (if you have a baster or squeeze bulb feeder) or just keep doing what you are doing.
