Yes, salt water only. Smallest species, can be kept in 1 gallon

dwarf eashorses reqiure alot of care. they have to be fed baby brine shrimp 3 times a day. it is also recommended that they are kept in groups, in a 5 gallon, or smaller aquarium for the beginner as to not fowl the water with their food. in having the smaller aquarium, it is even harder to keep the water in good condition. the link that roka gave is a great place to get info on any seahorse.

If they are supposed to be kept in smaller aquariums, would a 5 gallon refuge be something they could live in. It sounds cruel, but most refuges are full of plants to hang on and pods for him to eat. Just throwing it out there......

they are in smaller tanks due to their feeding requirments. live baby brine shrimp 3 times a day, and that can really fowl your water, plus they really arent a beginner seahorse. you would run the risk of fowling the whole tank if in the sump. then again maybe the main would eat the rest of the brine. they also require low flow since they dont swim very fast.
