i was given a royal gramma and a red haired scallop just a week ago and they just died...scallop died like 2 days ago and i haven't seen the royal gramma since yesterday...

here are my water conditions...

calcium 500ppm
dkh 10
kh 179ppm
ammonia 0 ppm
nitrite 0 ppm
ph 8.4
nitrate 20 ppm
water is 33ppt and 1.024 specific gravity
water temp ranges between 77 and 78

PC lighting
55 gallon reef tank

other inhabitants are 2 gobies, 2 clown, 1 mandarin, and a chromis
corals, lots of mushrooms, polyps, a torch, and elegance
sand is about 2" layer

feeding pellets everyother day and occasionally frozen brine and mysis shrimp for corals

the royal gamma usuall hides mine hides on his hole and comes out to get food and it darts back into his cave, the nitrate is alittle bit high ill try to get it as close to 0 as possible

yeah...i've been trying to get the nitrates down for a few weeks now but doesn't seem to be getting any lower...even cleaned out the sump to see if that helped and nothing

yes, i have a protein skimmer and it lets out some nasty looking water

i had the same problem with the nitrates and what i did is clean all my filter media and skimmer and did a 30% water change and since the i have 0 nitrates
