A mixture of magnesium chloride hexahydrate with magnesium sulphate with work better ionically.
See Randy Holmes-Farley's formula 2 part calcium alkalinity replacement, for the magnesium replacement part. (to me it's actually a 3rd part for the formula)
I forget just off hand if it's 5 parts chloride to 1 part suphate or 8 to 1, but his revised home made formula has it listed.
