I was wondering if anyone attempted to seed a saltwater tank with BBs from a freshwater tank? It seems to me like a simple way to help start a saltwater tank since most of us have or are upgrading from freshwater tanks

If your going to use bacteria, use bottled. Freshwater is different bacteria than saltwater.

I have access to cured live rock that I will be picking up in a day or two. It was more of a curiosity question. It would seem to me that the nitrifying bacteria would be very similar in both types of tanks if not identical, although I'm sure there is more bacteria at work than just the nitrifying bacteria we find in our freshwater tanks. It might be a good way to jump start a fishless cycle

It wont work. They are not the same bacteria. You need seeded material from a SW tank.
