Feather duster worms

I placed 2 on the sand bed and now 1 is missing and the other is on top of a piece of live rock.
 
They move if they are happy they will let go of their tube and drift somewhere better but they do often die because the tube protects them
 
With the feathers out, current can catch them and move them quite a bit. But do you have crabs or shrimp in the tank? Could be that the feather duster got messed with by another critter.

If a duster stays in it's tube and just chills, it's happy. When stressed out, it can either shed it's crown (the feathery part) and regrow it later, or even just abandon it's tube and go hide, growing a new tube as it does so. I lost my pink duster and was sure it was dead. Then weeks later, I see the crown poking up out of the sand behind a rock. It dug down and made a new tube.
Generally, unless stressed out, they do not move.
