i picked up a nice little feather duster today.

do I really need some of that liquid zooplankton food, or is it gonna be just fine without it?

It really depends on the age of the set up. The older the tank, the less likley these things are needed. If you do use a food supp, be sure you use it very sparingly as they tend to create a nutrient rich system and unwanted algaes over time. You will have more success feeding them with phytoplankton than anything else.

it's a pretty young tank.
I can use a pipette to drop a little phytoplankton right onto the duster, right? that way I won't be over dosing and giving myself algae.

You could but I don't think that will increase the chances of better feeding for this type of animal. Just use about ½ the amount recommeded by the manufacturer and stick to about once a week or so.
