I am in the precess of switching from CC to sand. I put the sand in a plastic bowl and slowly lower it into the water, until it fills up. I then slowly put the bowl on the bottom and tilt it and slowly brush the sand onto the bottom....This has worked pretty well for me...I tried the PVC but ended up making a mess (especially since the PVC I got was a little too narrow)....
