i'm thinking of investing in a new filter for my tank. is the AquaClear Mini/20 Power Filter a good filter for my tank? is there any suggestion on how i should switch filters when i get one?

What is your substrate? Do you have any LR?
LR will help by providing biological filtration and a DSB will give you the proper denitrifying bacteria.
If your LR is 1.5 - 2 lbs per gal and DSB is 4 - 6 in then you dont need any mechanical filtration.
