filter ideas

I have a 56gal. column tank and currently I am running a HOB filter. I have between 55-60lbs of live rock. I am trying to decide between building a sump or getting a Fluval 406 canister filter. Which one would be better? I would like to cutdown on the water changes currently I change 10gal every week and keep my water parameters more stable. I also have a HOB protein skimmer my tank is not drilled.
