filter media

I have a HOB filter for my 30 gallon tank. I've had the same media in it as when I started about 2.5 months ago. Do I need to change out the media. Is it bad to do it it for loss of good bacteria. Or should I just wait longer to change it.

You can rinse it out during a water change, but I wouldn't replace it unless its practically dissolved. Just collect some water from the tank in a bucket, swish the filter pad around in it a bit, squeeze it some, then put it back
