filter media in wet / dry

Whenever I change the filter media on top of the wet / dry its loaded with what I'm guessing is pods.

Picking them out is not working. I'm ready to ditch this thing and try the sump / refgium thing. While the filter catches pods it also catches all kinds of other crap. Is there anything you can add to the fuge to filter out bad and not the pods?

I have a 20 gal that I'm going to convert to a fuge.

Last question is whats the best way to ditch the wet /dry and add the fuge without causing my tank problems?

Really no way to stop the filter from catching debris. (doing its job) If it does not catch it then it will end up in your bioballs/rubble and cause more problems. Convert the 20 gal to a wet/dry,fuge or just put some bulkheads in and have the fuge separate from the wet/dry. That is how my setup is.
