Filter Transfer

Just like to say hello to everyone. This is my first post. Hope you can help me out here. I have a filter on a fresh water aquarium that I would like to transfer to a saltwater setup. Do I have to cycle the filter or can I consider it already cycled? Is the bio different for salt than for fresh water or are they the same? Thanks in advance.
