Filtration issuea

Started this project a year + ago... 54g corner; got a wet/dry unit and all the what nots but never could get the push/pull just right (one or the other would get too full and almost flood) disassembled due to a cracked seal, fixed and had to move in the process. Now purchased an eheim pro (live rock rubble in each tray) but it appears to be too strong for the tank (bubbles galore!!!!) We've been running a small magnum interim gah. Spouse doesn't trust the wet/dry to even attempt to set it up again
1 bl/white oscellaris and 3 corals is all I have in there currently (8 heads-duncan, 30heads-zoas and a random mushroom.

Is there anyway to slow the pressure down on current filter??
