filtration question - Aquarium Advice

Hey guys whats up? I've been lookin around online and I've been seeing alot of berlin style sumps with skimmers and no mechanical filtration of any kind. My question is do you really need it as long as you have a good skimmer and recommended amount of live rock? Just wondering, thanks for any comments.

If you have alot of good LR and a skimmer you do not need the Mechanical part of it. 1 1/2 to 2 LBS per gallon and a good skimmer.

When I get to 125 to 130 (90 lbs now) of liverock in my 75 gal Im going to ditch the mechanical filtration all together.
