Finally - 40 Breeder Reef Journal/Build Thread

I'm starting to think that I want a mixed reef rather than sps dominant. I like the acans now... heck, I might even like chalices in person (though I don't in pics). I can finally see the start to this tank now.

if you don't like chalices in pics you probably won't like them in person. imo they look much better in pics than in person. especially as frags. once they grow out they look awesome, but until it grows out & encrusts onto a rock it just isn't the same for me.

Maybe I need to see them in person. I think they're ugly blobs of coral in pitures, even the $1000+ frags. I thought acans were ugly too... until I got one.

Thanks I'm not a big fan of colonie$ haha. I'd much rather pay a fraction of the price for a frag and watch it grow

Thanks, though I suck at growing coraline. I bought some LR that was just caked in the stuff, and it has all died. Oh well, I guess it'll come eventually if it wants to

Last night I added a red high fin banded goby and a candy cane pistol shrimp pair. The guy couldn't get the shrimp out of a rock, so he gave that to me as well. The rock has some clove polyps on it, so I'm debating on whether to put it in the refugium or not (they're brown). I can't get pics of the shrimp because I finally found him by looking up under the tank and seeing him making a spot under a rock. The goby has yet to be seen, but I assume it's either under the rock with the shrimp or hiding somewhere else that I can't see. Once it comes out, I'll get some pics (if it ever does)...

Picture time..

Move this frag a few days ago, the color really came back on it. Good thing someone pointed out that different morphs like different places. Moved it down and in more flow, seems to indicate that it likes it.

No idea what these are... kind of a boring brown though

Agreed, lookin great. Is that a Yasha? Looks a bit different than the ones ive seen. Its very small too right?

I really enjoy my pistol shrimp. It will be fun once i can get a goby for mine too!!
