I have never heard of anyone using them. Someone must since they still sell them and I know they wouldn't sell them if no one purchased them. But I don't for the life of me know of anyone that has one...
Personally, a wet/dry or Berlin style filtration are the only two I would every try. Both work well and are relatively easy to use and maintain.
