I usually keep it at 1.024, but after starting the reactor I had to let about a gallon run out into a bucket till it ran clear. This was replaced by ro/di water in my topoff system.

I've read that reefs should be between 1.023-1.025.. I guess I'll keep it on the higher end of that spectrum!
 
Fish can tolerate lower SG but the ocean is a higher SG. I am not sure exactly but I think it is higher than 1.026 even. Ask ccCapt the next time you see him. I try to keep mine at 1.026.
 
I`m not Larry but Natural seawater is 1.026 to 1.027. IMO as long as it`s 1.024 to 1.026 you`ll be Ok.
