I have seen on some plumbing where people both the gate valves and the ball valves. Is there any particular reason why the do that? Do they not each serve the same purpose?
If not what would be the difference a gate valve and a ball valve?

ball valves generally are the way to go on our smaller systems , for the most part they are easier to negotiate ,typically a smaller footprint ,cheap and very reliable

Thank you. My system that I will be starting to build is a 180 gallon with the duel overflows. Aqueon tank.
