This is a picture of my refugium that hangs on the back of my 29 gallon saltwater reef tank. My tank has been undergoing a hair algae epidemic for a couple of months now and it seems as though the algae in my refugium has not grown but rather decomposed itself. I find that the pink coloring of the algae in the picture is not normal and there is a problem that I am facing. If there is anyone who has any advice for me, I would greatly appreciate it. I think I may be better off restarting my refugium with a fresh setup and get rid of the old gunk.

I would remove what is falling apart in the refugium. Algae that is dying is dumping nutrients into the water column. Is there any rotating of the algae in there? If the bottom is starved of light this can easily happen.
