Got him a week ago and now hes hardly ever out. looks like some of his "dusters/feathers) have broken off too. any pointers?

tank reading are all good so I dont know why?

He may be blowing his crown from stress. Leave him alone, he's probably coming out at night. He will regrow the crown in time and he can eat without it . It took a couple of months for mine to regrow his crown after changing from one tank to another.

I agree he is stressed. Mine droped his crown only to regrow it a month later. Be patient and good luck

Whats the best way to plant one in your tank? I just placed him in a spot i thought is suitable and buried his roots?
Thats all I was told. Sound right to you?

Yeah that's how we did it. Put his bottom in the substrate and placed a rock sort of over where it might be. He has since attached to the rock and is doing great.
