Help - Brown Algae covering tank

I have tons of brown algae on the bottom of my tank on top of all my sand. I have tryed everything other than chemicals. I have no idea what to do can anyone help? i alreay have a sand sifting goby but nothing is helping. Dose anyone have any suggestions on reef safe and fish safe chemicals or filters that will clean it up?

How long has the tank been setup? What are your water parameters? What is your source of water for top off and water changes? What equipment are you running in the tank? What livestock do you have in the tank? How are you lighting the tank?
 
sounds like diatoms, they usually appear when you successfully cycle a tank. diatoms usually take up to a month to clear by themselves. if you can't wait, there's always the old way of doing it :) scrubbing
