How do feather duster reproduce?

I have a common Hawaii one, about 4in in diameter, today I got up a noticed a snail knocked off one of my frag plugs that I have had for months. Sure enough, there's a tiny feather duster(dime size) on the back of it. I'm sure it wasn't there when I got it, so where did it come from?

Also for note, I have added anything to the tank in months, so I'm at a lost

They are most likely hitchhikers and no relation to the larger duster.
