How can i figure out how many time my tank is turning over.

I have a 10g tank, a HOB Penguin mini and a maxi jet 400

all of your equipment should have a GPH rating on them ... then take that GPH rating and divide by 10 (the size of your tank)

For example if your HOB filter is 100GPH and the MaxiJet 400 is 150GPH you would have a total of 250GPH turnover divide that by 10 and you get 25 ... 25times would be yourt turnover rate!

Hope that helps!

Thanks that helps a ton :) So you just divide your total movment by the number of gallons the tank is. This is my first SW tank, is 5 turnovers good or do I need more?

Your hob is pushing about 100 and the maxi pushes 106gph. If your hob filter has an adjustment, turn it back. Once you get more rock in your tank, it won't seem so bad.

so ... 100+106=206/10= 20 times turnover ... I wouldn't adjust anything unless your getting a lot of spray from your HOB!
