I've got nothing set in stone to do, but in the future I plan on upgrading my 29gal to corals and such.

Needless to say, I'm going to have to upgrade my lighting to do such.

I was looking around, and was just wondering how many watts per gallon should I have for my 29gal?

I was looking at the hellolights 24inch 4bulb VHO retrofit, but I thought 300watts on a 29gal may be a little overkill [ 10WPG.. ]

I'm just wondering what my target wattage should be?

YOu should base your target lighting on what kinds of corals your wanting.

10WPG might be overkill for softies but its not overkill for SPS or clams for example.

Clams would be something I'd be interested in keeping, as well as Anenomes.

As far as Corals, I like all of them. Heh. Polyp, HPS, SPS, ect.

I suppose I could adjust the WPG by not using all VHO bulbs, maybe 2 VHO and to NO bulbs.

A 150W MH pendant would be nice over the 29 gal tank. Would give you a wonderful ripple effect also.

That level of lighting would not be overkill then if you want maximum flexability in what you can keep.
