I don't clean the back glass so a lot of green algae has grown on it. I was told that's good for your tank. Is that true and if so how much should I allow and for how long?

I don't scrape the back glass ever and I know a lot of people don't . It's just a never-ending battle . You can also cause it to spread quick if you scrape it . Better just to leave it alone IMO

I agree, I never scrape the back glass either.
I also have a very dark background, this makes it almost unnoticeable. Even on a lighter background, if you leave it alone it will look natural. If you scrape it and don't get all of it, everywhere, it actually looks worse IMO. You see the straight lines of the scrapings or places you couldn't get.
