Some of you know that I recently swapped out my 55 gal glass with protein skimmer and hob filter for an acrylic with a built-in skimmer and wet/dry filter.... and I just wanna say man is it AWESOME !!!! I use to have problems with cloudy water from time to time and especially with water changes... but with this wet/dry there is no change in the clarity EVER !!! with the exception of when I stir up the sand of course.... :D I have bio balls right now but am planning on loading up on LR rubble soon to replace it...... I'm curious though.... I've been reading lately that LR helps with nitrates .... how is this possible ???? I understand the ammonia and nitrites from bacteria... but was in the LR helps with nitrates??

LR has zones in it where there is little water flow, which leads to zones which are poor in oxygen. This is the enviroment where the nitrate consuming bacteria live.
