I'm at a loss with protein skimmer

I got a new pump for my protein skimmer its the same brand Rio +800 and ever since I can't get the right air to water ratio even with the most air eventually too many bubbles end up in collection cup what do I do? BTW its a sea life systems 150

If the replacement pump has a higher capacity than the original that would be the result. Try adjusting to be with lower water level or reposition skimmer a little bit higher. The link below may give you some more idea.

Okay that helps but where should I have the bubble level in the neck of the skimmer?

I scrubbed out all the crud in the neck and its working better already. I have the bubbles halfway up the neck that's okay right?

Right bubbles is what you need and they are supposed to be collected in the cup. It may take sometime for it to accumulate and must dark in color like tea.

The bubbles are supposed to be dark? And are a lot supposed to be going into the cup

The bubbles will be white but they push the dark (organic) material up and into the cup. You should clean the neck and cup once a week with a toothbrush. A dirty neck is less efficient.
