Rio's running continuously don't seem to exhibit the same problems. The problems don't manifest themselves until you shut the pump off and try to restart. You'll know your pump is on the way out when you have to restart it several times to get it to go.
In all fairness I have a small Rio running continuously in a non-critical application that has been running well over a year. The point was, if you're looking to buy there are better pumps out there. I would keep an eye on your pump and never shut it off. You'll probably be OK.
