Installing Fluval 304 in an Aqua One Tank

Hi, currently in the process of bumping the filtration system up in my Aqua One Tank. I got a good buy on a Fluval 304 canister filter thinking that it would be easily installed. Has anyone else got a setup like this and modified there tank? Is it ok to run the intake line and the return right next to the original powerhead that comes with the tank, or should i try and set it up at the opposite end of the tank. If so how did you do it?
