if anyone out there is a reptile or amphibian person theyll know the product im talkig about. I was at my LPS yesterday and saw a light fixture made by ESU called the combo tri light i believe. The fixture holds one flourescent bulb, and has two ceramic elements that house up to 150 watt incan. bulbs. my idea was one of these for each side of my tank with 4 150 watt mh and an actinic on each side. how does that sound?

A 150 watt mogul base is larger than the standard incandescent bulb. You would have to buy new sockets.

he MH bulbs would also need MH ballast. A MH bulb is not just a very bright incandecent.

well the combo lights have a ceramic ballast. when i was up at home depot yesterday i was looking at the mh ballasts and i couldnt find any differences between the reptile hood ballast and the mh one.

Im no lighting guru but I belive the differences are internal in how the voltage is stepped up and delivered to the mogul connector.
